An Important Update

I'll keep this simple: I took a couple of weeks off Language Rush to try and get my shit together, and I've come to the conclusion I need even more time, unencumbered by deadlines and schedules, to do that.

I don't know when Language Rush will be back. It might be three months, it might be six months, it might be longer — but it will be back.

Right now I'm keeping in touch with readers through the Language Rush Facebook page, but that's not a reliable way to get updates about the blog or the YouTube channel, especially after a long hiatus.

Here's my solution: I've set up a mailing list for Language Rush. If you'd like to hear from the blog once I'm ready to start posting again, add yourself to the mailing list:

A Note on the Direction of Language Rush

Language Rush began two years ago as a way to document my attempt to learn German, an endeavour that quickly fizzled out when I started a new job that demanded all of my time and energy. Over the course of these two years I’ve had many starts and stops, and the direction of the blog has drifted from language learning, to an enthusiasm for languages in general, to something more focused on theoretical linguistics.

In the last few months, I’ve tried to find some direction for Language Rush (and frankly, for myself as well, since I left the above-mentioned job). I’ve started a YouTube channel for Language Rush, I’ve reposted some old material that I hadn’t realised I hadn’t posted, and I’ve spent a good bit of time doing work that I’ve then thrown away for various reasons.

Anyway, that’s just some background for what’s going on with this blog. I’d like to commit to an aggressive posting schedule, but in my experience that’s a lot of self-imposed stress and very unsustainable. I’m going to be conservative here and commit to just one post a week, every Monday. It may be text, it may be video, and on some weeks when, for whatever reason, I can’t kick out a full post, it may simply be a list of language- or linguistics-related links.

I still have plenty of ideas for Language Rush, and I’m trying to figure out how to execute them. Think of today’s update as a sort of reset: resetting expectations for the five people for read this blog, and for myself.

All right, that’s all I’ve got for you now. I’ll see you on Monday.

Changes to posting schedule

You'll no doubt have noticed (all ten of you) that the Wednesday and Friday posts have not been coming with regularity. So, it turns out that the initial schedule I decided on was too ambitious. Moving forward, I'll continue the Monday posts, with occasional Friday posts about language learning or more specialised topics.

As for the TestDaF quest: that's still on, but with a variable testing date. It turns out that I might want to take leave next February (when I planned on taking the TestDaF), because a certain performer is returning to the West End in green.
